Well, a 100 or so words on the new novel is more than 0. What a year this has been. I'm wondering -- who reads anymore? What do they read? If there are actually any readers of this blog, can you take a moment and share whether or not you read books any more? If so, what?

Reading - I'm reading books for my online classes.
The Making of Modern China
Awakening the Buddha Within
Awakening to the Sacred
How to Read a Film
Screenplays
The Deluxe Transitive Vampire
The Well-Tempered Sentence
The Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era
From Dawn to Decadence: 500 Years of Western Culture
Was just introduced to Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series. Good stuff there.
Tried reading "The Other Boleyn Girl" and just couldn't wade through it. I'll try again later.
Romance - getting a big kick out of all the paranormals and vampire romances. Some are just silly, some make me laugh out loud (Kate McAllisters books, although all the heroines talk too much), am a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series.
The local library and I have establised a really close relationship recently. Finished all the Heechee books, am reading my way through Hazel Holt's Mrs. Mallory series; Barbara Hambly's Benjamin January series set in early 1800's New Orleans; Mrs Jeffries and the inspector series; William Palmer's series about Mr. Dickens as written by Wilkie Collins; Rosemary Stevens historical mystery series featuring Beau Brummel; The Ghost and Mrs. McClure by Alice Kimberly - it's the beginning of a series set in the 1940s.
Sharon Shin's Angelica series is the best combination of lyrical prose and a stunningly original idea.
The Film Noir Reader - is a series of essays on what film noir is. As is typical, the essayists tend to disagree with one another on almost everything.
I'm a voracious reader and always have a book with me. I've been known to miss a light in heavy traffic because I break out my book to read while sitting (no I don't read while the car is moving!!).
And I buy books, new and used, hardbound and paperback - a lot of books in a year. Most of the people I know read, although not many get through the number of books I do.

Wow, I'm impressed. My sense was that, in general, reading was down. But, if you are any indication of what's happening out there, then there is hope for writers seeking people who like to read.
